#262 - The Auteurs - Showgirl

Feel like a fraud even mentioning Luke Haines, as he’s probably one of my major 90s blind spots, but this is a track that’s stuck.
Music blog. Throughout 2011 I'll be posting one song a day from the 90s, counting down the 'best' 365 with #1 being posted on December 31st. One song per artist. Also posted will be little features on new music and bands, as well as mixtapes made by myself and guests. During 2010 posted my favourite 365 tracks of 2000-2009, you can read that list here
#262 - The Auteurs - Showgirl

Feel like a fraud even mentioning Luke Haines, as he’s probably one of my major 90s blind spots, but this is a track that’s stuck.
#314 - Trembling Blue Stars - Farewell To Forever

there will come a day when I write about songs again. today is not that day.
#359 - Another Sunny Day - New Year’s Honours

Increasingly find myself thinking that I actually hate everything about indie pop and twee, and while there are a ton of related facets that I still can’t stand, I only have to listen to some Sarah/K/Slumberland compilations to remind myself that the music itself isn’t one of the factors I hate, which I guess is all that matters. While the worst indie-pop is probably worse than the worst of any other genres, the best is still totally worthwhile. Another Sunny Day’s 80s singles are probably up there with the best, but this is probably somewhere inbetween.
#24 - Hefner - Painting And Kissing

There’s a great scene where towards the end of series 3 of Breaking Bad where Gus and Walter are discussing how certain smells or sounds can be linked so vividly with memory, and one of them explains how it’s because of some fancy cortex in the brain, but some bit of biology will never explain how the atmosphere of listening to We Love The City non-stop during winter 2008 (halcyon days) is so hugely linked in my mind. Except that it does, but it feels ridiculous to be able to explain something like that.
hey this wouldn’t be a post on Don’t Make Lists without making some grand statement - no finer british band than Hefner has ever existed. I’m completely 100% serious.
#28 - Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U

THAT GIRL GIVES BRAINS THAT GIRL GIVES KNOWLEDGE THAT GIRL GIVES HEAD THAT GIRL GIVES SHINES THAT GIRL GIVES BJS AT ALL TIMES
#37 - Lily Allen - Not Fair

Pretty certain that no british pop act has released a one-two of singles as good as The Fear and Not Fair in my lifetime. Depressingly feels like a million years ago already.
#57 - Million Dead - I Am The Party

apt.
#78 - Brian Eno & David Byrne - Strange Overtones

Not the hugest accolade but definitely my favourite song Byrne has recorded post-Talking Heads. First heard it when I was getting my hair cut. Yep.
#109 - The XX - Heart Skipped A Beat

Just wrote for a very long time about how perfect their well deserved mercury-winning debut is and it got deleted. Cheers tumblr.
