#220 - The Promise Ring - Red & Blue Jeans

as far as i’m aware i’ve gone 145 tracks without posting any classic 90s emo yet. the remaining 220 will definitely resolve this.

#358 - The BoDeans - Closer To Free

Almost certainly (i.e completely certainly) chosen because of being the Party of Five theme. Which i’ve never seen an episode of. But it features Matthew Fox with floppy hair. Google it. Going to bed now. Bye.

#25 - Nika + Rory - LA SUXXX (The Choice)

Second post of the day, and second track on the list featuring Nika Roza Danilova (can I get more gushing than the last one?) Probably the one track I’ve listened to more than any others in the last 12 months, and more or less the highest proper pop song on the list, completely perfect. Despite being buried beneath a mountain of autotune, her destinctive vocals still shine showcasing her diversity and outshining other “alternative” uses of engineered vocal manipulation. I’m looking at you David Lynch and Sufjan Stevens.

#241 - Bon Iver - RE: Stacks

I’ve read a few criticisms thrown Justin Vernon’s way along the lines of being a standard MOR singer-songwriter for mums, and he wouldn’t have half as much attention thrown his way if it wasn’t for the mythology surrounding For Emma, Forever Ago. While I’d agree that the record isn’t exceptional, it’s still pretty/very solid, and far above pretty much every other “man + beard + guitar” stuff you’ll hear, and he does possess an exceptional voice as finely displayed on this the record’s delicate closer. And the story behind is preeeeeetty interesting and for me makes the experience more enjoyable.

This has got that feel of dusk in summer that I can’t really explain (a lot of electronic acts convey this in a completely different way), but the closest point of comparison I can think of Calexico’s Garden Ruin
